Mantova, Italia – After a stunning 2017 season, Pit Lane Competizioni confirms its intention to compete in the TCR Series also in the 2018, raising the stakes with a great news. The Italian squad bets on the DSG Challenge as first step of TCR competitions and it’s ready to field several Audi RS3 LMS, Cupra Leon and Volkswagen Golf, all equipped with DSG gearbox. The purpose of the Pit Lane Competizioni technicians is to follow the needs of lots of drivers willing to compete in a TCR series with a interesting bid. Thanks to the peculiarity of the DSG cars, the team can offer a full TCR Europe season with the same budget required for a national series, aiming to catch the DSG Challenge title. Giovanni Altoè is the first driver announced by Pit Lane Competizioni to join the DSG program, with an intense full season program in the TCR Europe and in the TCR Italy.
“I’m so excited! It will be a very tough season for me: 14 racing weekends and 28 races mean that I will be on track every week. I will drive my Pit Lane Competizioni’s Audi RS3 LMS in both series, but I will have to adapt my driving style to two completely different tyres.” commented Giovanni Altoè, ready to debut next week in the TCR Italy. “I started working with Pit Lane Competizioni this winter racing the TCR Middle East. Keeping racing with them will help me to grow up more quickly, it’s a professional and winning team and they can support me under every point of view. It will be a long season, I have to discover all the European tracks, but I feel ready. I want to fight for winning both the TCR Italy and TCR Europe DSG class.” said the Italian driver, 2017 TCS, an Italian touring car series, and SEAT Leon ST Cupra Cup runner up.
“We are very happy to have Giovanni with us. Despite he is a very young talent, he already gained a great experience. Giovanni is the 2017 TCR Europe DSG class champion, this year it will be more tricky with two championships and so many contenders, but we want to battle for both Italian and European DSG trophies.” said Roberto Remelli, Pit Lane Competizioni Team Owner. The Italian team won the 2017 TCR Italy title and brought home the runner-up title in the 2018 TCR Middle East series. “We really believe in the TCR concept and in its basics, we are sure it’s the right way for the future of the touring car races but we know also that, in this particular period, there are many drivers struggling with finding the budgets needed for racing. The TCR DSG cars are the right answer to all the drivers want to compete the TCR Series with lower costs. We are thinking to all those drivers coming from national SEAT Leon Cup series or from other mono brand trophies, but also to those interested in making the first step in the touring car races and are looking for a full, competitive package with a reasonable cost. We are giving to all these guys a new and interesting chance: racing an entire season with a top car instead of being forced to choose a partial program of events.”
The versatility of TCR cars brings many other opportunities: “Our goal is to be on the grid of the European and Italian TCR series, but thanks to the smart TCR concept we can follow our customer everywhere they want. We can compete both sprint and endurance championships, national or regional. Always following our philosophy of being on top with a smart budget.” concluded Remelli.
